Harry Steel – The Man Behind the Futures Coaching

Killian interviews Harry, our Gap Course Coordinator

Harry runs the GAP course for Altitude Ski School. However, Harry is much more than the GAP course coordinator, he is an incredibly talented skier, instructor and all round good bloke. I completed my GAP course last year with Altitude and I thought it would be good to get the man himself to tell you a little more about the course.

So Harry, what is the gap course?

“The gap course is a 10 week residential ski instructor programme for BASI Level 1 and 2. It is tailored to give you everything you need to start a career in ski instruction but also to have one of the most fulfilling and worthwhile experiences.”

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the course last year. What do you see as the major benefits of doing the GAP course?

“First of all, it is a great way to start a career in ski instruction. You learn to develop your communication and social skills as part of learning to teach skiing. Verbier is also known, internationally, to be one the best resorts in the world on and off the piste. Once you have completed the course, there are opportunities to work for the ski school.”

There are plenty of GAP courses run all over the world, so why choose Verbier and Altitude Ski School?

“Verbier is an incredible mountain to ski both on and off the piste. The accessibility of some of the best off piste runs in Europe is what attracts so many people to the area. Not only is the skiing amazing but the town has a vibrant social atmosphere with plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs to enjoy in your downtime. If you decide that ski instructing is something you want to do for longer, there are opportunities to continue your instructor development through to Level 3 and 4 of the BASI system with Altitude. Finally, Altitude Ski School, provides work opportunities for anyone looking to be either a part-time or career ski instructor. Oh and of course the opportunity to win your course fee back!”

If you are interested to hear more about the Futures Ski Instructor Course in Verbier we are happy to arrange a chat with former students, our sales director Laura or even the man himself, Harry Steel!
