ISIA ski instructor training

ISIA BASI Verbier

After finishing the manic Christmas period and having now resumed training it’s time for an update from the ISIA (and Rory) course. We kicked off with hard training, and drinking, in December to get us ready for teaching and to help us learn the resort of Verbier. The majority of this was with ski coach Remy who despite being almost 3 times our age put our speed and agility to shame.

New Year’s Eve Verbier

Soon enough it was time to do the blue and get teaching as Verbier filled up for the busy holiday weeks (Christmas and New Year’s Eve), everyone had work and there was some great variety in the lessons that we got to teach which is crucial for those of us who have our teaching exams this season. In the middle of all this was New Year where Verbier seriously lived up to its reputation with various questionable antics occurring in Place Centrale.

Mountain safety course

Once the holiday season was over we had a chance to experience après ski Altitude style with a joint trip to the Farinet including the ‘Ski Instructor GAP’ students and the rest of the ski school. This resulted in early bed times for most people and even the odd injury. Now that we are back in training though everyone is focused again and last week we had two major events; firstly it was exam time for Amy and Alex as they started their Mountain Safety Course and secondly, much more importantly, the powder has now arrived. The arrival of the snow led to an epic morning of training on the backside of Mont Gele with Adam giving us a technical look at our off piste skiing and Alejandro giving us a more ‘Spanish’ outlook.

Hopefully there’s more snow and fun times in the pipeline for the rest of the season!
